Sinister seeks to find out what targets of new data-surveillance algorithms would look and sound like. It is based on research into software designed to identify suspicious behaviors by analyzing communications patterns and not primarily the content of conversations. On the visual surface, Sinister imitates friendly "Friendster"-stlye environments. These services portray social networking as something friendly and good but could just as well be used for conspiracy.
